Make Them Last: How to Get the Longest Wear from Your Loxys Extensions

Make Them Last: How to Get the Longest Wear from Your Loxys Extensions

Your Loxys extensions are an investment, and like any good investment, they’ll only perform as well as you care for them. With the right products, habits, and a little consistency, your extensions can stay soft, glossy, and full for months (we regularly have clients wearing the same hair for over a year).

Here’s your game plan for making that happen:

1. Wash Smarter

Extensions don’t get natural oils from your scalp like your own hair does, which means they don’t need frequent washing. Aim for two to three washes a week, max. Washing daily strips away moisture, roughs up the cuticle, and shortens lifespan.

When you do wash, stick to salon-quality products. Cheap supermarket shampoos are loaded with sulphates and proteins that can wreck extension hair. Yes, that “repair” shampoo with keratin? Not your friend. Protein and lactic acid make extensions brittle and prone to snapping.

2. Brush With Care

A good brush makes all the difference. Always use a tangle teezer or a brush without nubs, and hold your extensions at the top as you brush.

Start mid-length and work your way down, never from scalp to ends in one go.

Be thorough - gently brush layer by layer between your wefts to keep everything smooth and tangle-free from root to tip.

3. Protect While You Sleep

Before bed, tie your hair in a loose braid or high ponytail to stop knots forming while you sleep.

If you can, swap your cotton pillowcase for silk - it reduces friction, breakage, and that dreaded morning frizz!

4. Keep the Heat  in Check

Extensions don’t love scorching heat.

Keep straighteners under 180°C, always use heat protectant, and avoid overusing hot tools.

The same goes for sun exposure. UV rays can fade colour and dry out the hair. A leave-in product with UV protection keeps strands hydrated and bright.

5. Avoid the Hidden Hazards

A few sneaky culprits can ruin even the best install:

Chlorine: unpredictable and damaging - avoid soaking your hair in pools (applying an extension safe leave-in conditioner before swimming can help).

Sunscreen, perfume & fake tan: certain chemicals can turn blondes peachy-pink. Always use mineral sunscreen, and keep your extensions well away from fake tan or perfume.

Hard water: copper and minerals cause build-up and discolouration - if your water’s harsh, ask your stylist about filters or clarifying treatments.

DIY toning: purple shampoo is fine in moderation, but overdoing it can turn blonde extensions purple, fast.

6. Schedule Regular Maintenance

Extensions aren’t “set and forget.”

Book your maintenance every 4-6 weeks to keep everything secure and looking fresh.

Skipping appointments leads to slipping, matting, and unnecessary breakage - all totally avoidable with regular care.

Great extensions don’t happen by luck, they last because they’re looked after.

With salon-quality care, gentle handling, and a few smart habits, your Loxys extensions will continue to look flawless month after month.
