Hair with nothing to hide.
We hold ourselves to standards that no worldwide regulation requires, because we believe the hair extension industry can and should do better. Here's exactly what that looks like for Loxys.
We set our own standard.
Because there is no worldwide standard for the ethical sourcing of hair extensions, we decided very early on that it was up to us to live by our own conscience.
Our position is the result of years of research, personally visiting factories, and staying actively aware of corrupt or dubious practices that we want no part of. We take an uncompromising stand on the wellbeing of both the hair donor and the factory workers.
In visits to China, our founder Kate witnessed first-hand the poor conditions of most hair extension factories — in stark contrast to the conditions at the factory Loxys works with. Our factory is a large, reputable organisation that chooses to be externally audited for Quality Management and Social Responsibility. They produce their own statement of ethical sourcing and working conditions, which meet our criteria below.
Our non-negotiables.
These are the minimum standards our supplier must meet to work with us. No exceptions.
Donor wellbeing.
- Donors must be between 19–40 years of age — no hair from children or the elderly
- Donors must exercise free will — no duress or incentives from sales people
- Donors must be paid fairly and promptly, based on the grade and weight of hair
- Hair must be cut respectfully to bob length, or thinned out — no shaved heads
Worker wellbeing.
- Fair, equitable working conditions — including hours and pay
- Workers must be of reasonable working age — no child labour
- Appropriate health and safety training must be provided
- Forced or trafficked labour is strictly prohibited
A factory we're proud to work with.
We work with a single, large, reputable factory — one Kate has visited in person. It's an organisation that voluntarily submits to external auditing, not because it has to, but because it has nothing to hide.
The conditions we saw there were in stark contrast to the majority of factories Kate visited during her two years of research. That contrast is precisely why we chose them, and why we've stayed with them.
Hair you can put your name behind.
We're immensely proud of our supply chain and our hair. We hope that with more conversations about this topic, others in our industry will introduce similar rules for their own sourcing — to ensure this industry can be a safe and ethical one for everyone involved.
