Why some weft extensions shed excessively (and how to avoid it)

Why some weft extensions shed excessively (and how to avoid it)

All extensions shed to some degree. That's normal.

What isn't normal is excessive shedding from the weft top - especially after cutting, washing, and regular wear.

That's where construction matters.

Loxys no-shed wefts are designed to minimise shedding from the weft line, particularly where most problems usually start.

If you've worked with traditional wefts before, you've probably seen the opposite. You cut the weft during installation, and over time the top begins to loosen, fray, or thin out. Density drops. Clients notice.

Why Most Wefts Shed Excessively

Shedding issues usually come down to weak weft construction, not aftercare failure.

When the hair isn't properly secured at the top, cutting the weft compromises the structure, and the problems show up weeks later.

Common issues with poorly constructed wefts:

Loose or inconsistent stitching
Hair isn't held evenly along the weft line, so some sections release strands faster than others.

Fraying after cutting
Traditional wefts often unravel once trimmed, leading to ongoing fallout from the cut edges.

Lack of reinforcement
Without a stable top, regular washing, brushing, and styling accelerate breakdown.

This kind of shedding is a design flaw.

How the Loxys No-Shed Weft Is Different

Our no-shed wefts are engineered to reduce shedding at the source: the weft top.

Here's how:

Flat, reinforced weft top
The top of the weft is tightly and evenly constructed, helping secure strands along the entire line. This reduces loosening and fraying over time.

Designed to be cut
Loxys wefts are made to be trimmed during installation without the top unraveling - a major point where traditional wefts fail.

Minimised weft-line shedding
Because the structure is stable, shedding from the weft top is significantly reduced during normal wear, washing, and styling. Hair stays where it's meant to be.

High density where it counts
Loxys wefts are densely constructed per centimetre. That density stays consistent over time, rather than disappearing through excessive shedding.

What This Means for Your Installs

When shedding from the weft top is controlled, the difference is clear:

  • Density stays more consistent over time
  • Fewer patchy or thinned-out areas
  • Confidence cutting wefts to fit your client
  • Less client concern about excessive fallout
  • Better longevity across the full wear period

In short: fewer problems you shouldn't have to fix.

Weft Construction Matters More Than Hair Alone

You can have beautiful, cuticle-intact, double-drawn hair - but if the weft construction is weak, the install won't hold up.

That's why Loxys has worked with the same manufacturer for over a decade, refining construction and quality.

When you open a packet of Loxys wefts, you're getting:

  • Reinforced, flat tops designed for real installs
  • Construction that supports cutting and long-term wear
  • Hair engineered to minimise shedding, not pretend it doesn't exist

TL;DR:

All extensions shed a little. Poorly made wefts shed a lot.

The Loxys no-shed weft is designed to reduce shedding where it matters most - at the weft line - so your installs stay full, secure, and predictable over time.
