Ethical Sourcing

Loxys proudly maintains the strictest criterial for the ethical sourcing of human hair, including where the hair comes from, how it is gathered and treated, and the factory conditions. We take an uncompromising stand on the wellbeing of both the hair donor and the factory workers.

Our position is the result of years of research, personally visiting factories, and staying actively aware of corrupt or dubious practices that we want no part of. Because there is sadly no worldwide standard for the ethical sourcing of hair extensions, we decided very early on that it was up to us to live by our own conscience and set standards that would also raise the bar for others in our field.

In my visits to China, I’ve witnessed first hand the poor conditions of most hair extension factories. These factory conditions were in stark contrast to the conditions at the factory used by Loxys. Our factory is a large, reputable organisation that chooses to be externally audited for Quality Management and Social Responsibility. Our factory produces its own statement of ethical sourcing and working conditions, which meet our criteria below.

Loxys criteria for the wellbeing of hair donors

Donors must:

  • Be between 19-40 years of age (no hair from children or the elderly)
  • Exercise their own free will in deciding to donate their hair (no duress or incentives from sales people)
  • Be paid fairly and promptly based on the grade and weight of hair
  • Have their hair cut in a respectful way to bob length, or thinned out (no shaved heads)

Loxys criteria for the wellbeing of factory workers

Factory owners must:

  • Maintain fair, equitable working conditions including hours and pay
  • Ensure workers are of reasonable working age (no child labour)
  • Give appropriate health and safety training
  • Prohibit any forms of psychological violence such as threats, sexual harassment, and production targets that are detrimental to the health and safety of the workers
  • Give legal protection to migrant workers
  • Prohibit forced or trafficked labour

We’re immensely proud of our supply chain, and our hair. We hope that with more conversations about this important topic that others in our industry will step up and introduce similar rules for their own sourcing, to ensure this industry can be a safe, and ethical one for all involved.
